SummaryLondon, Milan – Thursday 22 May 2014: MTV has announced today that the world’s number one DJ, producer and musician, HARDWELL, will bring its largest summer extravaganza Isle of MTV 2014 to an almighty close with a powerhouse finale set. Now in its eighth year, the franchise – born from a partnership between VIMN Advertising & Brand Solutions and Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) - will return to Malta’s historic Il-Fosos Square, Floriana on Wednesday 25th June. The 2014 live show is sponsored by music and lifestyle brand House of Marley and Someone Like Me, a global sex education campaign partnership between Durex and MTV Staying Alive Foundation.
Bursting onto the international music scene in 2011 with his formidable dance beats, complex drum ensembles, daring synths and emotive chords, Dutch born Hardwell (bornRobbert van de Corput) will take to the stage at this year’sIsle of MTVto rock the 50,000 strong crowd. At the age of just 26, the Dutch phenomenon has already been named theworld's No. 1 DJ in the 2013 DJ Mag Top 100 poll, acquiring global headliner status with performances at some of the most prestigious and crowd-pleasing of parties in the world.
Having elevated his festival and club-land standing to impressive, dizzying heights, his serving of meteoric club anthems have swept clubs and dance-floors worldwide. Hardwell will set Il Fosos Square alight with show-stopping performances of chart topping, club anthems ’Zero 76’ featuring mentor Tiësto (which received over 14 million views on YouTube!), ‘Call Me a Spaceman’, ‘Apollo’ and, ‘Cobra’ the track that first propelled Hardwell’s name into the spotlight and ignited a global phenomenon around his infectious releases and DJ sets.
This will be the eighth consecutive year that MTV has produced its biggest outdoor live music event in partnership with Malta Tourism Authority. An unprecedented number of music fans will descend on the island on Wednesday 25th June 2014 for one of the must-attend highlights of the summer music calendar.
Isle of MTV has a reputation for showcasing some of the biggest names from the international music scene. Previous performers have included Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas, N*E*R*D, One Republic, Maroon 5, Akon, Enrique Iglesias, Kid Rock, David Guetta, Metro Station, Snoop Dogg, LMFAO, Jesse J, will.i.am and Rita Ora amongst others. The closing set for Isle of MTV 2013 was performed by Afrojack.
The open-air concert features live performances, which will be filmed and edited into a 60-minute special that will broadcast across 20 MTV channels throughout Europe. As part of an extensive integrated marketing campaign, the Isle of MTV Malta Special concert will be supported by marketing initiatives, all of which will drive awareness of the event as well as leverage MTV’s world renowned brand and unique youth insight, to further cement and promote Malta’s position as a holiday destination for young people. Over the eight years that Isle of MTV has been held in Malta, research indicates the number of visitors to the island under the age of 24 has increased by 88 percent and the age group now accounts for 1 in 5 of all tourists.

Music maturity came swiftly for the now seasoned-veteran Hardwell (born Robbert van de Corput). At the age of 25, the young Dutch titan capped off a 10 year journey when he was crowned World’s No.1 DJ in the 2013 DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Poll cementing his position as the electronic scenes newest superstar DJ and becoming the youngest ever winner of the coveted Top 100 DJs award.

First entering the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Poll at #24 in 2011, Hardwell rose to #6 in the 2012 edition of the poll, before being crowned World #1 DJ in the 2013 poll – seeing off fierce competition from the likes of Avicii and Armin van Buuren and following in footsteps of electronic icons Tiësto and David Guetta.
